I am Sr. Lydia Mukari Okang’a, a Catholic religious sister, communicator, and storyteller passionate about empowering young women and girls through the transformative power of storytelling. I believe that stories can shape identity, restore hope, challenge limiting stereotypes, and inspire the confidence to pursue education, leadership, and purposeful lives. Through storytelling, digital media, and public engagement, I create and share narratives that celebrate resilience, amplify women’s voices, and encourage young women and girls to recognize their God-given dignity, discover their potential, and become compassionate leaders and agents of positive change in their communities.
At the heart of my vocation is a commitment to digital evangelization. I believe that today’s digital platforms are mission fields where the Gospel can reach people across cultures, generations, and geographical boundaries. Through YouTube and other digital platforms, I share content that promotes faith, hope, and human dignity by highlighting the life and mission of the Catholic Church. My work includes documenting liturgical celebrations, religious professions, Church events, Scripture reflections, interviews, and human-interest stories that demonstrate the Church’s witness in education, healthcare, peacebuilding, and community development. I strive to make the Gospel accessible and relevant by communicating it in ways that resonate with contemporary audiences.
My passion for communication extends beyond evangelization to promoting ethical journalism, strategic communication, and development communication. I believe that communication is not merely about sharing information but about building relationships, fostering dialogue, promoting justice, and giving voice to those whose stories are often unheard. Through authentic storytelling, I seek to inspire informed conversations, strengthen communities, and contribute to positive social transformation.
My commitment to ethical communication and social impact has been enriched through my engagement with Georgetown University, where I have participated in professional learning opportunities that strengthened my understanding of strategic communication, leadership, and the role of storytelling in advancing justice, inclusion, and social change. These experiences have broadened my perspective on communication as a catalyst for both personal empowerment and community development.
As a lifelong learner, I continue to deepen my knowledge and skills in communication, media, and storytelling so that I can better serve the Church and society. My aspiration is to build platforms where faith inspires action, where young women and girls are empowered to realize their full potential, and where authentic stories foster hope, dialogue, and lasting social change. In everything I do, I seek to communicate with integrity, professionalism, and a spirit of service, believing that every story has the power to transform lives and every voice deserves to be heard.
