
H.E. Michael Cardinal Czerny, SJ returned to St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Parish, Kangemi, where he lived for eight years while serving as the Director of the African Jesuit AIDS Network (AJAN).
During his visit, His Eminence toured the St. Joseph Development Programmes (SJDP), including the Upendo Children’s Rehabilitation Centre, Uzima Counselling Centre, Dolly Craft Vestments Kangemi, and St. Joseph Technical and Comprehensive School.
Addressing the students, Cardinal Czerny encouraged them to remain focused on their studies, reminding them that they have the potential to transform not only their own lives but also the future of the Kangemi community. He also invited them to dedicate time to prayer and personal reflection, appreciating God’s love and the many graces at work in their lives.

The Cardinal expressed his gratitude to the outgoing Director of SJDP, Fr. James Mugwe, SJ, the incoming Director, Fr. Paul Kilonzo, SJ, and the Parish Priest, Fr. Beatus Mauki, SJ, for their dedicated service in Kangemi. He commended their commitment to accompanying young people, offering them hope, and fostering holistic human development.
Reflecting on his return, Cardinal Czerny shared his joy at being back in a place he considers home, where he spent many meaningful years of his ministry.
Cardinal Czerny is in Kenya to attend the 21st Plenary Assembly of the Association of Member Episcopal Conferences in Eastern Africa (AMECEA).
He was accompanied by Rev. Fr. Dumisani Vilakati, Msgr. Joseph Xavier Raj, and members of the AJAN team from the Jesuit Conference of Africa and Madagascar (JCAM) headquarters in Nairobi, Kenya.
